Russell Vought should not be appointed director of the Office of Management and Budget. This agency has influence or control over nearly every other federal agency and how they spend federal money. Mr. Vought believes that if Congress passes a law saying that a certain agency will spend money on a certain program, the president can ignore that law and direct that the money not be spent (known as impoundment).

There is a 50-year-old law that says the president can't do this, and the Supreme Court upheld it. Yet Mr. Vought is not impressed. He is fine if the balance of power in Washington is weakened. This is just one reason he is unfit to run this anonymous, powerful agency. Please use our Action Alert ([link removed] ) today to tell your Senators to vote against his nomination.

In his article titled “Is There Anything Actually Wrong with ‘Christian Nationalism ([link removed]) ?” Mr. Vought says he believes Christian nationalism “... is a commitment to an institutional separation between church and state, but not the separation of Christianity from its influence on government and society.” He’s okay with “institutional separation” as long as he still gets the influence of Christianity on the government.

In his same article, Vought says the United States is a Christian nation. It is not. The Constitution does not contain any of the words Christian, God, Jesus, or Bible. It is a secular document that establishes a secular government. It only mentions religion in Article VI, clause 3, which prohibits religious tests for any government office.

Mr. Vought says he is a Christian nationalist; we do not want him in a position where his religious beliefs can affect the management of our government.Please use our Action Alert ([link removed] ) to tell your representatives to oppose his nomination.
