Lillian's List will be hosting our annual Black History Month panel on Thursday, February 20th at 7pm via Zoom. This year's topic is The Hard Conversation: The Challenge of Black Women Running for Statewide Office in North Carolina. 

Over the past few years, we have seen multiple highly qualified Black women run strong campaigns for state level office in NC, yet face defeat in the general election. Our panelists will dig in on the unique biases these women face and what we can do to do better support them in the future.

The NC General Assembly officially began their 2025 legislative session on January 29th. We're excited to see new faces in the legislature like Rep. Beth Helfrich, Sen. Woodson Bradley, and Rep. Monika Johnson-Hostler, and new leadership like Senate Democratic Leader Sydney Batch!

We will be keeping a close eye on the legislature this year, as it is likely Republicans will put forward another anti-abortion bill this session. 

Thanks to the work of Lillian’s List and your support, last year Lillian’s List candidates broke the Republican supermajority in the NC House, and the people of North Carolina elected pro-choice Governor Stein. This means that any anti-abortion legislation can be vetoed, and the veto can be upheld by the legislature.
