John,
Over the weekend, I delivered the House Democrats’ weekly address.

While I’ve worked to address the wildfire crisis for several years, I never could have imagined that just three days after being sworn into Congress, Southern California would be devastated by destructive wildfires.
These fires claimed dozens of lives and destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, and livelihoods across Los Angeles County. I commend the brave firefighters who worked tirelessly for weeks on end to save lives and protect our communities.
Our country’s shared commitment to help our neighbors in need is one of our greatest strengths. That’s why it pains me to see the hyper-politicization of this tragedy.
Our federal government should never turn a blind eye to communities reeling from a natural disaster, place conditions on aid, or illegally freeze federal funding to American citizens – making it difficult to rebuild.
Let me be clear: I'm leveraging every tool possible in Congress to prevent extremists from disrupting these safety nets.
That includes defending our first responders who put their lives on the line day after day. I’m also demanding that our federal government do its job and inform the public about harmful pollutants that have emerged from these recent fires.
We’re fighting back because we believe in the American people. Together, we can get it done – and I hope you continue to stand with me.
Thank you,
George
