February 4, 2025: Weekly Newsletter | On his first day in office, President Trump reversed Joe Biden’s radical DEI mandates, programs, and offices. Now, it’s time for Congress to make this change permanent. The Dismantle DEI Act, which I reintroduced alongside Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO), will ban race-based hiring and offices, end discriminatory DEI training, and restore our federal government to the meritocracy it should be. The Dismantle DEI Act passed out of the House Oversight Committee last Congress but did not make it to the House Floor. Now that the voters have made their mandate clear, Congress must pass this bill to support President Trump and his America-First agenda. The Dismantle DEI Act will return our federal government to a color-blind, merit-based, and fair system that made our country great. It’s time for Congress to act. The executive orders from President Trump are most welcome - but they will only last as a long-term solution if Congress is ready to support and codify the agenda. This program allows local law enforcement to partner with ICE, giving them the authority and training to detain and deport illegal immigrants. I’ve introduced the 287(g) Program Protection Act to codify this critical tool into law. My bill ensures local agencies can join the program quickly, protects existing agreements from unnecessary cancellations, and provides resources for law enforcement to assist ICE in enforcing immigration laws. The current process for acquiring a suppressor is overly burdensome, involving months of waiting, a $200 tax, and unnecessary and complicated paperwork, deterring responsible gun owners from using this safety tool. The SHUSH Act removes this red tape. It’s a common-sense reform, making it easier for hunters, sport shooters, and law-abiding gun owners to access these vital tools for hearing protection and firearm safety. The reality is that most of these individuals were nonviolent, and many were even let into the Capitol by police that day. Yet, for years, they were subjected to politically motivated prosecutions, excessive sentences, and mistreatment while the same DOJ refused to prosecute criminals across our country as our communities grew more unsafe. While this pardon brings relief to many, there is still work to be done. My office remains committed to securing the release of Daniel Ball, who continues to face unjust treatment even after Trump’s pardon. Justice should be blind, not weaponized. | I joined the Legally Armed America podcast to discuss protecting Americans’ Second Amendment rights and how my No REGISTRY Rights Act will put a stop to the ATF’s continued overreach of law-abiding gun owners. | Rep.
