This unprecedented, illegal move—alongside Donald Trump’s executive order calling for a ninety day “freeze” on foreign aid—is wreaking havoc on the international development community, and most importantly on the lifesaving humanitarian aid programs around the world that rely on USAID funding and staff.
These include programs that distribute critical family planning, reproductive health, and maternal health services around the world that work to prevent unintended pregnancy and unsafe abortion and the pregnancy and birth related injuries and deaths that result from both.
USAID plays a critical role in empowering people and building democracies, in furthering reproductive health and rights, and in preventing the spread of disease and the scourge of food insecurity.
