Today, we face an unprecedented challenge—and we need your help.
For more than 50 years, the Urban Institute has been a trusted source of independent, nonpartisan public policy research that informs decisions affecting millions of people and places across America. From shaping policies that lift families out of poverty to driving solutions in housing, education, and health care, our work has always been guided by one mission: creating a better future for all.
But today, that work is at risk. An increasingly uncertain funding landscape is threatening the very infrastructure that powers evidence-based policymaking. Several of Urban’s federal research grants have already been canceled, with additional cuts likely in the coming weeks. If the Office of Management and Budget had implemented its freeze as planned, roughly a third of our budget would have been frozen, pending review and potential termination. These disruptions put our work—and the communities we serve—in jeopardy.
We’re turning to you, our most passionate supporters, to help us bridge this gap. The stakes couldn’t be higher. Without your support, the research that powers smarter, more effective, and more just policies could grind to a halt—right when it’s needed most.
