John,
Microplastics are everywhere — in our food, water, and even the air we breathe. This rapidly escalating crisis requires action before the damage becomes irreversible.
This year, we’re fighting to stop plastic pollution in our water by uniting SEVEN governors to demand that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) monitor microplastics.
The Safe Drinking Water Act gives us the edge: If seven Governors act before November, it will trigger mandatory EPA action (unless the EPA determines there are 30 more urgent contaminants to monitor).
It's time for our Governors to take bold leadership. Send a message urging your DC Governor to protect your tap water from microplastics!
Stop Microplastics!
The fight for clean water is a marathon, not a sprint. While we're currently defending vital protections like the Lead out of Water Rule and PFAS regulations from Trump’s chopping block — we're fighting back and building a better future at the same time.
Our microplastics campaign is our offense — our long-term strategy for building a better future. Here’s why it’s so critical that our Governers take action on microplastics right now:
We have a right to know if microplastics are in our drinking water. Monitoring would require water systems to test for microplastics and tell us what they find. This would help us understand the full extent of microplastic contamination in our drinking water and its impact on public health.
Monitoring microplastics would provide critical information. We can't solve a problem we don't fully understand. To address it thoroughly, we need regular monitoring of microplastic levels in our drinking water.
It's time for state leaders to be bold and fight back against the current administration’s assault on our drinking water. We need Governors who are committed to cleaning up tap water, combating microplastic pollution, and protecting our water. Monitoring microplastics is the first step.
Stop Microplastics!
We're partnering with Food & Water Watch members like you across the country, as well as local and national organizations, to secure commitments from seven governors to take this first step towards a future free from microplastic pollution.
Contact your DC Governor today, and ask them to sign the petition to monitor the hidden threat of microplastics in our water!
In solidarity,
Brooke & Nisha
