President Trump’s executive order halting new offshore wind leases and reviewing existing clean energy initiatives poses a serious threat to America’s shift toward renewable power. This reckless move jeopardizes key projects off the coasts of Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia, throwing a wrench in the gears of our transition.
At the same time, Trump is aggressively expanding fossil fuel production, prioritizing the interests of polluters over the well-being of the planet. Trump’s “Energy Dominance” policies will be devastating to both the environment and the economy. By increasing natural gas exports, Trump could limit available energy, driving up prices and threatening our energy security.
By obstructing the clean energy transition, Trump threatens hundreds of thousands of jobs and keeps the country tethered to polluting fossil fuels. If we are in a “national energy emergency” as Trump claims, let’s not reward oil and gas executives at the expense of workers and consumers.
Instead, let’s focus on fostering a thriving clean energy economy that creates millions of new, future-oriented jobs.
To counter Trump’s policies and protect America’s clean energy future, Congress must:
Maintain funding for wind, solar, and other renewable energy projects that can be integrated into communities without harming public health or the environment.
Prevent Trump from illegally withholding Congressionally approved clean energy funds. Lawmakers must take legislative and legal measures to stop the administration from “impounding” these critical resources. The Constitution is clear: Congress is responsible for appropriating these funds!
Conduct oversight hearings -- whether or not Republican leaders cooperate! “Shadow hearings” held outside Republican control may be the only way to expose and challenge these damaging rollbacks. Trump’s appointees have already made their pro-fossil fuel stance clear, and new Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already begun blocking clean energy investments.
The urgency cannot be overstated. The only way to keep more carbon from going into the atmosphere is to keep it from being extracted from the earth. Trump’s immediate assault on clean energy demands swift resistance.
Tell Congress to take action to oppose Trump’s efforts to undermine renewable energy now. The future must be built on clean, sustainable energy -- not fossil fuels that will produce greenhouse gases that make the planet unlivable.
Thank you for demanding a responsible path forward to renewable energy today.
