Dear John,
I am writing to share my deep concerns about a troubling effort by the Trump administration and billionaire Elon Musk to eliminate the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)—a move that would have devastating consequences for global humanitarian efforts and America’s leadership on the world stage.
For decades, USAID has played a crucial role in providing life-saving aid, responding to global disasters, strengthening economies, and promoting democracy. It has helped fight diseases like HIV/AIDS, supported communities recovering from natural disasters, and built lasting economic partnerships that benefit both the world and our own nation. The idea of dismantling this agency is not just shortsighted—it is morally and strategically irresponsible.
Many of you share this concern. My office has received an overwhelming number of calls from constituents who understand that USAID isn't just about foreign aid—it’s about building a safer, more stable world that ultimately benefits the United States. When we invest in international development, we prevent crises before they start, reduce the need for military intervention, and strengthen economic ties that create jobs here at home.
Yet, despite these undeniable benefits, former President Trump and Elon Musk want to shut down USAID and abandon America’s role as a global leader. Musk may be a billionaire, but that does not give him the right to dictate U.S. foreign policy or undermine programs that save millions of lives.
I want you to know that I strongly oppose this effort and will fight against any attempt to weaken or eliminate USAID. We must continue to stand up for American values of compassion, leadership, and global engagement. I urge you to make your voices heard—contact my office, reach out to your neighbors, and let’s work together to stop this reckless proposal.
I deeply appreciate your engagement and advocacy, and I am proud to represent a district that understands the importance of standing up for what is right.
Sincerely,
Danny K. Davis
