Dear John,
Amidst the nearly overwhelming blizzard of bizarre behavior from Trump and his team, I want to call your attention to what he is trying to do to immigrants and communities along the border.
Today Trump’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is in El Paso, the defining city of the Texas-Mexico border, to intensify the propaganda push that aims to sell America mass deportations, militarization of border communities, removal of protected status for migrants who are legally present in the U.S. and the end-run cancellation of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment granting U.S. citizenship to everyone born in this country.
This, despite the fact that migration numbers are at a four-year low; that the only solution that will provide controlled borders and lawful, predictable migration is a re-writing of our immigration laws; and that these theatrics will unnecessarily hurt American families, our economy and the rule of law.
Not to be outdone, and always with his political finger in the wind, Texas Governor Greg Abbott expanded Texas National Guard deployments to the border, adding more taxpayer dollars to the $11 billion he has already spent.
Instead of meekly accepting this unconstitutional farce, I suggest we fight back.
Fight back by making sure that the people who are being harmed have the help and the resources to protect themselves, to stand up for the rule of law, and to stop these abuses by the Trump and Abbott administrations.
Fight back by making sure that candidates who challenge the MAGA stranglehold on political power in Texas can win because they have the voters, the message and the turnout machine at their back.
Keep up the fight,
Beto
