Team, Elon Musk’s attempted takeover of federal agencies is spiraling into dangerous territory.
The decision to shut down USAID, an independent agency that provides crucial aid around the world to fight things such as disease and hunger, shows that Elon Musk is openly flouting the rule of law. He’s an unelected billionaire who is ignoring Congress’s constitutional role in creating and approving the federal budget.
If he is not stopped by Congress or the courts, he will go after the federal agencies that carry out our government’s most bedrock functions. Everything could be on the chopping block, and Musk has already gained access to Treasury payment systems that control Americans’ Social Security checks.
Trump is letting the richest man in the world wreak havoc on our government to make himself even richer, and we have to use every tool at our disposal to fight back.
That’s why I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join me in voting No on all of Trump’s nominees while he defies the law and our nation’s constitution. Will you help me make this important push?
