This administration is much more prepared and planned this time around, in
terms of the kinds of chaos that they're trying to unleash.

More than legal programs, more than policy, they are trying to invoke
fear.

That is how authoritarianism works. These are the tools to get us to
sacrifice and surrender our civil liberties, more than they take them.

Trump pardoned virtually all the January 6th insurrectionists, including
specifically people who were arrested with threats against my life.

I'm not going to give them my fear. I feel more like squaring up than
anything else.

When I was running in 2018, people would say, “Why should we vote for a
waitress instead of this 20-year incumbent?” — understandably, right? I
didn't have experience. They did. And I often talked about the story of
The Wizard of Oz.

This was my mom's favorite movie. I know it's in the zeitgeist now because
Wicked is out, but genuinely: all of these big, scary things, it reminds
me of the end of The Wizard of Oz, where you yank back the curtain — and
it's a little guy.

It's a small, scared, incompetent little man.

I think we need to remain focused. Yes, they are capable of immense
amounts of damage.

It can be scary. It's not something we ignore. It's not something we check
out from.

But we register it. We say, “OK.” Then we figure out what our options are
and we do the best we can, day by day.

They're relying on us giving up. Hell no.

We’re going to keep standing with trans people.
We’re going to keep standing with the LGBT community.
We’re going to keep standing for the working class.
We’re going to keep fighting for a better minimum wage.
We’re going to keep fighting to guarantee healthcare.
