John --
The
Forward Party is built on the idea that America needs
change. Change in leadership. Change in how we approach
our biggest problems. Even change in which problems we view as the
most important. The American dream feels out of reach for too
many—those Americans have been sending a clear message that they want
to disrupt the status quo through their votes for decades.
But not
all disruption is good. Sometimes it can be dangerous. And it’s too
easy for those in power to exploit the appearance of change for their
own needs, instead of the needs of the American people.
Since his
inauguration, a number of President Trump’s nominees had their
confirmation hearings. Some have already been confirmed, passing
through the Senate, even if only by tie-breaking votes by Vice
President Vance.
Many
people, including leaders at the Forward Party, feel many of
these individuals are unqualified for the positions they are
being appointed to. Lives hang in the balance based
on the decisions these nominees will make.
Additionally, disrupting the status quo in search of better ways
to serve the interests of the American people shouldn’t mean
compromising on science, ethics, and human decency. Too many of
Trump’s nominees have lapses in these areas.
We need a
government that is willing and able to challenge the corrupt centers
of power in this country, not a government that intends to implant its
own set of special interests. Those that have sold out our lives, our
futures, our autonomy, our health, and our children need to be called
to account. That is why we founded the Forward Party in the first
place. It’s time to invest in and nourish a pipeline of
independent-minded leaders, candidates, and activists who
will galvanize the country to implement changes that will give us
back our lives, our futures, and our health.
That will help us build a world that’s better for our children and for
generations to come.
For too
long, the legacy parties have frozen out, demonized, or silenced those
who are calling for change. We deserve better. While we disapprove of
many, if not most, of the Trump cabinet nominees, we also recognize
that a few of them are raising issues and questions about domestic and
foreign policy that need to be pursued. But we also deserve
better than flawed nominees who have bent a knee to the
President and shown, through their answers during their
confirmation hearings, that they’re more interested in being loyal to
Trump than in being loyal to us, the American people.
Our work is to build the infrastructure
necessary to elect creative and positive disruptors,
independent-minded candidates to represent the half of all
voters who are currently disenfranchised by the two-party
system. We will also work to ensure that all public
servants—elected and appointed—are held accountable to the law, the
Constitution, and the voters.
Sincerely,
The
Forward Party
