State of the State: Stitt Turns His Back on Oklahomans as Trump Threatens to Freeze Federal Dollars
John,
Governor Stitt didn't say a lot that surprised me at the State of State address. He still wants to starve our public schools. He wants to see services and programs for our neighbors cut. All in the name of a bigger rainy day fund.
You might be asking yourself - if we're 49th in education, 43rd in poverty, 43rd in public health health, 45th in income growth [[link removed]] - isn't it already a rainy day??
Instead of working to invest in our communities, Stitt continues to try and accrue a bigger bank account. As the former head of a mortgage company, it's maybe the only thing he knows how to do. But we KNOW it is leaving working Oklahomans behind.

Stitt plans to retreat from the needs of our neighbors while Trump considers a funding freeze that would cut off $68.8 billion federal dollars sent into our state. [[link removed]] Right now, the White House is trying to decide whether or not Medicaid (passed in 1965), Head Start (passed in 1965), Pell Grants (passed in 1972), Older Americans Act Nutrition Program (think Meals on Wheels - passed in 1972) are part of a woke, deep state conspiracy.
But those programs help Oklahomans get into schools, they ensure health coverage, and of course feed our neighbors. Without them, Oklahoma becomes a much worse state to live in. Instead of standing up for those Oklahomans, the Governor wants to leave them out to dry.

When Trump threatens our communities, Governor Stitt shrugs. But Oklahomans deserve better. Leaders of our state should fight for us, not bow down to party bosses. That's why we're working to elect strong leaders in our neighborhoods this month. And we are already launching into campaign actions for Special Elections at the State Legislature happening in the Spring.
Beating the Trump-Stitt agenda requires us to run, campaign, and fight everywhere. We'll keep working for a fairer, better Oklahoma. I hope you will join us in running aggressive campaigns in front of every voter so that they know the Democratic Party fights for them. [[link removed]]
