Things are moving at such a pace right now that it is difficult to track — exactly — what’s happening moment-to-moment.

That’s part of the Trump administration’s strategy. They want us off balance as unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats and their lackeys take a hatchet to the federal government.

But one thing is apparent, even with all the chaos right now.

Elon Musk is moving to kill USAID. Here are three reasons why that matters:

It will make us less safe. The foreign assistance USAID administers around the world prevents crises, staves off famine, fights disease, and promotes democracy around the world. People will suffer and die if that funding disappears, and instability around the world will increase. American Troops could be put into harm’s way as a result.
It will reduce our influence, and benefit our adversaries. There is no organization sponsored by any nation that matches the impact of USAID. For now. When we withdraw, our adversaries — China, Iran, Russia — will take advantage.
It is blatantly, unequivocally unconstitutional. Congress authorizes and appropriates the funding for USAID. It is not within Trump’s power to revoke it — much less some unelected, unaccountable billionaire like Elon Musk.
We’re shooting ourselves in the foot here, and we’re doing immense damage to our system of government at the same time.

This is an absolute crisis, and we need people speaking out about it. We held the line on the federal funding freeze last week, and we need you again now.
