John -

Donald Trump is following through on his cruel threats to our immigrant
neighbors. He has stripped schools, churches, and hospitals of their safe
haven status, and ICE is conducting raids in cities across the country as
you read this.

As climate activists, we must stand with migrants fighting for justice,
human rights, and dignity. Because we understand that migration and the
climate crisis are deeply connected.

Climate chaos is driving people from their homes. But instead of tackling
the climate crisis head-on, Trump has declared “drill baby drill,” while
fanning the flames of racism, xenophobia, and far-right sentiment. We owe
it to migrants everywhere to do better. [ [link removed] ]Will you take the first step
and sign our pledge to stand in solidarity with migrants?

Wealthy countries like the United States caused the climate crisis with
our emissions. That means that the U.S. is largely responsible for the
droughts, floods, hurricanes, and rising waters that are forcing people in
countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa and elsewhere to leave their
homes.

And direct impacts like climate disasters are not the only way climate
change intersects with migration. Many migrants are fleeing violence,
poverty, and hunger — conditions caused or made worse by fossil fuel
extraction and the climate destruction it wreaks.

We know this situation will only get more dire. As the climate crisis
intensifies, more and more people around the world will be impacted. By
2050, climate change and extreme weather could force more than 200 million
people to flee their homes.^1

The U.S. has a responsibility to migrants. Our reckless emissions have
caused and continue to fuel this crisis. Building a just world means we
must fight for the people most harmed by the climate crisis.

We cannot claim to stand for climate justice if we turn our backs on
migrants after the flood waters recede and the droughts end. And we cannot
allow Trump’s inhumane migrant policies to go unopposed.

[ [link removed] ]The first step, John, is to sign our pledge to stand in
solidarity with migrants. Will you sign it today?
