With all the chaos coming out of the West Wing, some major stories have slipped through the cracks —stories that should be front-page news but have been overshadowed by the sheer volume of controversy.
One of those stories? The shocking revelation that Trump’s newly appointed Treasury Secretary has given Elon Musk and the DOGE team access to the federal government’s vast payment system —the very system responsible for trillions of dollars in government expenditures, including Medicare and Social Security payments.
Let’s be clear: This is essentially handing over the federal government’s bank account to a billionaire with no government authority and no accountability to the American people . It’s an egregious abuse of power that puts sensitive financial data in the hands of sinister people who have no business accessing it.
David Lebryk, the career official who managed this system for years, resisted Musk’s power grab. His reward? He was forced out after 30 years of service.
This is not about just “cutting waste.” This is blatant overreach. Musk—the single largest government contractor, who has pocketed nearly $5 billion in taxpayer dollars—doesn’t care about protecting the American people. He cares about his own bottom line.
If Trump truly cared, he wouldn’t be turning over America’s financial infrastructure to private individuals who barely understand how the Department of Treasury operates.
This is why we must protect our statewide Democrats in 2026.
