For the past four years, the U.S. government has been funding UNFPA at historic levels — and these contributions have made a real, positive impact on the lives of women and girls around the world.
But this critical funding isn’t guaranteed. President Trump defunded UNFPA in 2017, and is poised to do so again.
In this moment of uncertainty, we want to extend our thanks to U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen for standing by UNFPA and women and girls in her opening statement for the United Nations Ambassador nomination hearing:
“ One agency at the UN that I think is particularly important is UNFPA … UNFPA provides critical reproductive and maternal care. It reaches three times as many countries as our bilateral family planning program.
And in some areas…it is the main provider of lifesaving reproductive health supplies – things like childbirth delivery kits that reduce infection for women giving birth outside clinical settings. I believe its work is irreplaceable. ”
Sen. Shaheen’s statement about UNFPA comes at a time when several critical programs are on the line, and we appreciate her vocal support during this precarious moment.
Will you join us in thanking Sen. Shaheen by signing this thank you card today? And if you’d like to send her a personal message of thanks or support, there’s a field for you to do so! [[link removed]]

We desperately hope that the Trump Administration will also see the value in UNFPA’s work delivering sexual and reproductive health care and services, but in the interim, outspoken support for our lifesaving work is more important than ever.
Together, we can be there for women and girls. Thank you for being part of this mission.
Sincerely,
USA for UNFPA
UNFPA is at risk of losing critical funding, and with it, the health, safety, and lives of millions of women and girls.
Will you help us continue our mission with a gift that delivers lifesaving care no matter what happens under the Trump Administration? [[link removed]]
