Will you join me in a special Clap for Carers this evening? Tonight’s clap will be about the key workers and carers who have been protecting all of us, but it will also be about applauding the difference each and every one of us has made during this unprecedented moment in our shared history. Why?

Humanity’s inclination to be kind during Covid-19 - the way in which communities have rallied to protect our neighbours in greatest need and danger - is the greatest demonstration of solidarity the world has ever seen. In the face of unimaginable suffering, the connections we have made with each other have helped us get through this.

The motivation to help build resilient communities, care for those who need it and nurture the life upon which we all depend unites each of us within the Green Party. As we face the biggest challenge ahead, the climate crisis, celebrating what we now know we can achieve together will be more important than ever. Together, we can show that the inclination to goodness is hard-wired in humanity.  Despite the danger, fewer and terrible sadness caused by this pandemic, we can now finally demolish the miserably mythology of human selfishness.

But better is already happening and I hope that you will join us in helping it grow. The Green Party has a version of membership called Friends that enables anyone to join us, even if they belong to another political party - because the work that lies ahead is beyond politics. I hope that you will consider becoming a Friend so together we can pave the way for green recovery and renewal.
