We’re excited to have you join us on our "Make It Real" journey,
where we highlight stories of communities across the country taking
action against climate change. In our past installments, we visited
South Dakota’s plains and Detroit’s neighborhoods, seeing firsthand
how local efforts can make a real impact.
[ [link removed] ]Now, we’re heading to the Sunshine State, where Dream.Org met with
local environmental leaders tackling the state’s unique climate
challenges – from rising sea levels to extreme weather. Despite these
threats, a strong movement for environmental justice is growing, led
by advocates and organizations working toward a more sustainable and
equitable future.
In this edition of our "Make It Real" series, we take a closer look
at the movement driving change in Florida, showcasing the innovative
solutions and determination of those working to protect their
communities and create a more sustainable future. You'll meet
inspiring individuals like Kim Cox, who is tackling the intersection
of climate change and affordable housing in Liberty City. Frustrated
by the poor living conditions many low-income families
endure—including crumbling infrastructure and inadequate government
housing—Kim is working to provide safe, dignified, and sustainable
homes.
She’s pushing for solutions that address the rising cost of building
materials, the impact of climate change on housing, and the urgent
need for better living conditions in her community. These efforts
remind us that environmental justice, economic opportunity, and
sustainable living aren’t just goals—they can be realities for
everyone.
