Just days into his presidency, on January 24, 2025, Trump issued an unprecedented executive order halting all foreign assistance for 90 days—cutting off life-saving programs and putting their long-term survival at risk. The impact was immediate. Across the globe, organizations like Outright were forced to halt critical development, humanitarian, and human rights efforts overnight. LGBTIQ people, already living on the margins, are among the first to feel the consequences. Without urgent action, they stand to lose even more.
Aid groups and human rights organizations, including Outright, are deeply concerned that the freeze puts countless lives at risk around the world and causes a destabilization of entire sectors that depend on these funding mechanisms.
