** 'Stay-at-Home Lite' to Begin Friday, May 29

Today, Mayor Bowser announced that DC is moving to a new posture starting this Friday, May 29. The stay-at-home order will be lifted this Friday allowing non-essential businesses to open under certain conditions. Mayor Bowser called this next phase, "Stay-at-Home Lite." People are still asked to wear masks when social distancing is not possible and in-person gatherings remain limited to no more than ten people. ** Retail Stores, Salons, and Barbershops

Non-essential retail stores will be allowed to open for curbside/front door service. No customers are allowed inside.
Barbershops and hair salons can open by appointment only with no waiting inside. This applies to hair salons only, nails, waxing, electrolysis, and threading is still prohibited.
In addition to takeout, delivery, and grab and go, restaurants that already have outdoor seating can begin using that space to serve customers as long as they remain 6' apart.
** New Guidelines on Parks and Public Space

Parks, tennis courts, tracks, fields, golf courses, and dog parks will reopen; however, people must continue to use social distance practices while engaging in these activities. Playgrounds, pools, and indoor recreation facilities remain closed.
DC will also be working to identify public space, including sidewalks, roads, and alleys, to be closed to vehicular traffic for specific days and times. This will allow for expanded pedestrian and bicycle usage and outdoor customer seating for licensed food or retail establishments consistent with public safety.
During Phase One, health care providers may continue to offer, or resume offering, outpatient, or other surgical procedures that will not unduly burden hospital capacity or COVID-19 related resources.

The Department of Small and Local Business Development is distributing small business startup supplies to local businesses through Main Streets Organizations and BIDs. All DC businesses are eligible and are asked to contact a nearby Main Street Organization ([link removed][UNIQID]) or BID ([link removed][UNIQID]) for more information.
For Ward 5 businesses along Rhode Island Avenue NE, Bladensburg Road NE, and Brookland/Edgewood, please fill out this form ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

** Small Business Spotlight: The Bakers' Lounge
