Our electoral system is broken.

The last election was the most disproportionate ever - with a Labour Government winning two-thirds of the seats on one-third of the votes. People across the country feel disillusioned with politics because their voice is simply not being heard.

It’s beyond time to fix this broken system. Liberal Democrats have always been the leading voice making the case for electoral reform - and it’s why we’re leading the way in this new Parliament, using our role as the largest third party in a century to push for fair votes.

Just last week, the House of Commons held a debate on proportional representation which was co-led by my Liberal Democrat colleague Lisa Smart MP.

My Electoral Reform Bill won a historic vote in Parliament last year - the first time ever that proportional representation has been backed by MPs.

The Bill was meant to have its next stage in Parliament at the end of January. But the Labour Government denied it time to be debated - despite it receiving a democratic mandate from MPs. You can read more about it here.
