SENATE UPDATE: Cabinet Confirmations, FAA Oversight, COVID Coverup

Feb 3

READ IN APP

Last Week

  • Scott Bessent was confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury (68-29).

  • Sean Duffy was confirmed as Secretary of Transportation (77-22).

  • Lee Zeldin was confirmed as Administrator of the EPA (56-42).

  • Doug Burgum was confirmed as Secretary of the Interior (79-18).

Unfortunately — but not surprisingly — Senate Democrats blocked consideration of H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, which would impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in response to its efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute individuals protected by the United States and its allies.

Conservative Spotlight

TED CRUZ — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) held a hearing in the Senate Commerce Committee on the Panama Canal, China’s growing influence, and Panama’s failure to keep its treaty obligations. He also held a bipartisan briefing on the collision between an American Airlines jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport. As chairman, Sen. Cruz will provide much-needed oversight over the investigation carried out by the NTSB and the reforms being made by the FAA.

RAND PAUL — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) announced that his committee subpoenaed 14 federal agencies from the exiting Biden-Harris administration in a sweeping investigation into the origins of COVID-19 and U.S. funding of potentially dangerous viral research. Sen. Paul also made a strong statement at the confirmation hearing of RFK Jr. for Secretary of HHS. Watch it here.

TOMMY TUBERVILLE — Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) was vindicated in his year-long fight to stop the Pentagon’s policy of paying travel expenses for abortions after President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ended it. “I took a lot of heat when I stood alone for nearly a year in holding senior Pentagon promotions over this — but as of today, it was all worth it,” Tuberville said.

RON JOHNSON — The confirmation hearings for Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services took center stage last week. Mr. Kennedy drew a lot of attention for a position that is often overlooked because he’s a change agent who will take on the corruption in the healthcare establishment. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) has been a leader on this issue and gave a powerful statement calling for unity to help make our nation healthy again. Watch it here.

This Week

The Senate is scheduled to consider the nominations of Chris Wright for Secretary of Energy, Doug Collins for Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Scott Turner for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Russell Vought for Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Pam Bondi for Attorney General.

We also expect a vote on Tuesday in the Senate Finance Committee on RFK Jr.'s nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Thank you for your continued support. We will keep fighting!
