John, I’ll keep this brief.

In two states, Idaho and Montana, we’re facing renewed threats of an Article V Convention – an extremist plot to rewrite our Constitution.

You may be asking yourself – why are these two states so important? Well, we’re just six states away from forcing a convention. And if Idaho and Montana join, we’ll be on the edge of the Article V cliff. Let me explain.

In Idaho, we’ve defeated resolutions before. But this year, our opponents have introduced six resolutions, and extremist groups are pouring buckets of money into Idaho in hopes of paving the way for an Article V Convention.

And in Montana, two Article V bills have moved past committee in the Senate and a third remains on hold in the House. If any of them pass, these extremists will be even closer to pushing a complete rewrite of the rules of our democracy.

These anti-democracy extremists want to call for an Article V Convention, which would give unelected delegates the power to rewrite the entire Constitution with little oversight. Wealthy special interests would exploit this to push through far-right policies like:

• Strict voter ID laws
• Nationwide anti-union "right-to-work" laws
• Environmental deregulation
• Rollbacks of marriage equality and reproductive rights

The good news? With your help, we’ve stopped nearly 150 new calls for a convention each year in states nationwide, and we're playing offense, too!

We’ve successfully rescinded existing convention calls in New Jersey, Illinois, Colorado, New Hampshire, Delaware, New Mexico, Maryland, and Nevada – meaning that if Common Cause hadn’t acted, we’d be one or two states away from a dangerous Constitutional Convention.

John, I’m sure there are a lot of important causes asking for your attention, but we can’t afford to let this one slip through the cracks – our fundamental rights are on the line.
