Republican Leadership is proposing trillions in cuts to essential programs like Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), and the Child Tax Credit over a decade.² Almost $2 trillion of cuts would come from Medicaid alone―taking health services away from children, people with disabilities, low-income seniors, and many more.

They are also looking to take food assistance away from millions―in order to reward defense contractors and pay for their tax breaks for wealthy donors. Proposals call for getting rid of the much-needed update to the Thrifty Food Program on which SNAP benefits are based, and overall could take up to $250 billion worth of food help off the tables of people across the country.³

Donald Trump threw the entire federal government into chaos earlier this week when the White House budget office issued a memo freezing trillions of dollars of critical federal funding. While they withdrew the memo after public outcry, the attack on human needs is well underway.

Americans For Prosperity (AFP)―the right wing organization founded by billionaires Charles Koch and his late brother David―is spending $20 million in a campaign blitz, not only to advocate for extending the Trump tax cuts when they expire at the end of this year, but to call for even more cuts that will further benefit the ultra-wealthy and corporations. And to open the door to even more unfettered profit, they want to tear up regulations that limit the amount of environmental or health damage they can do.¹
