The legislation, named in honor of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student murdered by an illegal immigrant, strengthens immigration enforcement to prevent similar tragedies. The final law includes a key provision originally introduced by Andrew in the Protect Our Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act, making assaulting a law enforcement officer a deportable offense. Andrew was honored to attend the bill signing for this critical legislation alongside President Trump, as well as advocates for and contributors to the legislation. Andrew Garbarino (R- Bayport) that makes assault of a law enforcement officer a deportable offense. 'This is something that has brought Democrats and Republicans together, that's not easy to do,' Trump said before signing the bill...Garbarino was among the group of Republican lawmakers invited to attend Wednesday’s ceremony for his role in crafting a provision of the bill targeting migrants who assault police and immigration enforcement agents. In 2021, Garbarino first introduced a bill aimed at making assault of a law enforcement officer a deportable offense...Garbarino said once discussions started on the Riley bill, he met with the Sen. Recognizing Bayport-Blue Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshals The Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal Introduction Dinner on January 31 in West Sayville, celebrating Irish heritage and community leadership. This year’s Grand Marshals, Wendy and Craig Clare, were recognized for their contributions to the community. In honor of their dedication, Andrew was proud to provide a Congressional Certificate of Recognition and an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol. This long-standing tradition brings the community together in celebration and appreciation of those who make a difference. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Resolving a USPS Delivery Issue After two years of challenges with package deliveries, a constituent reached out to Andrew’s office for assistance. Andrew's casework team immediately engaged with USPS and worked to find a solution. Following an investigation and direct coordination with local management, the Patchogue Post Office agreed to accommodate the constituent by ensuring packages are delivered appropriately. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Backs Bill to Support Parents Traveling with Infants This week, Andrew cosponsored the Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening (BABES) Enhancement Act, bipartisan legislation aimed at making it easier for parents to safely travel with breast milk, baby formula, and other infant nutrition products. The bill requires federal agencies to establish and regularly update guidance on the proper handling of these essential items in consultation with leading maternal health organizations. It also ensures that policies remain responsive to emerging needs and advancements in technology. Andrew believes parents deserve the ability to transport breast milk and baby formula safely when flying, without added stress or difficulty. He is proud to support this bill to help parents and families. Andrew Helps Introduce the TSA Commuting Fairness Act This week, Andrew helped introduce the TSA Commuting Fairness Act. The bill directs the TSA to conduct a study on the feasibility of counting the time employees spend commuting between duty locations, airport parking lots, and transit stops as on-duty hours. TSA employees play a critical role in securing airports and ensuring passenger safety.
