It's paddling season in the Boundary Waters
In accordance with the orders of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, many of us headed into the Boundary Waters this past Memorial Day weekend. After a long winter, it is a joy to experience paddling the Northern lakes again.
If you are going into the Wilderness this season, don’t forget to help spread the word about protecting the BWCA by using the hashtag #savethebwca when you post your Boundary Waters pictures on social media! Please also be sure to practice the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Breaking news today
Feds failed to consider impacts of mine exploration on endangered species when they extended leases for Twin Metals. That's not legal, so we are suing along with the Center for Biological Diversity and the Wilderness Society. This administration ignores environmental protections at every turn. We are holding them accountable.

We're suing. Again. Here's why.
On May 6th, Save the Boundary Waters filed an important new lawsuit in federal court. This lawsuit challenges the wholly inadequate Environmental Assessment that the Trump administration cobbled together for the Twin Metals’ mining lease renewals. We are leading a broad national coalition and working day in and day out, on many levels, to ensure protection of the Wilderness and that this toxic Twin Metals project does not go forward.

“Federal secrecy is a red flag on mining near the BWCA:" Star Tribune Editorial Board, May 2nd, 2020
On May 2nd an excellent editorial came out by the Star Tribune Editorial Board. "The federal secrecy continues to be a serious red flag. The Clean Water Act changes also suggest that the Trump administration is doing everything it can to coddle Twin Metals instead of protecting the BWCA. The only logical response is for the DNR and other state agencies with permitting responsibilities to suspend work on this risky mining project." Read the full article below.

Thanks for your generosity during Give at Home MN!
May 7th would have been our largest fundraising event of the year, our annual Save the Boundary Waters Gala. Instead, we were able to participate in a week of online generosity through Give At Home MN, and it was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who participated in our week of digital events and giving. Our original goal was to raise $60,000. Incredibly, it only took a few days to reach that amount due to the overwhelming generosity from Boundary Waters defenders like you, and we ultimately raised over $136,000 in just a week!

Rep. McCollum’s bill to protect the Boundary Waters forever
The Trump Administration is rolling back environmental regulations that would greatly impact the Boundary Waters and continues to rush sulfide-ore mining projects next to the Boundary Waters. Rep. McCollum has a bill (HR5598) in the U.S. House of Representatives that would protect the Boundary Waters forever. Can you contact your member of Congress now and ask them to cosponsor HR5598 today?
