Email from Rep. Dan Newhouse The Republican retreat, American energy, and catching up with the Yakama Nation. Charting the Path Forward This week I joined my fellow House Republican colleagues for our annual policy retreat. There we discussed the path forward for the 119th Congress and how we plan to implement common-sense policies that lower prices, boost energy production, and rein in wasteful spending. I am excited about the opportunities to come for Central Washington and look forward to continuing to pass strong policies that work for Americans, not against them. Prioritizing Domestic Resources On Wednesday, I introduced the Abundant American Resources Act alongside Rep. Jodey Arrington of Texas to loosen the grip of the federal government on our domestic energy and critical mineral resources. It ends our reliance on foreign countries and reverses the previous administration’s top-down federal policies that locked up these vital resources and prevented us from exploring them. American energy dominance is a top priority in this new Congress, and this is a huge first step in achieving that goal. Laken Riley Act Becomes Law This week President Trump signed the bicameral and bipartisan Laken Riley Act, the first bill to become law in the new administration. This legislation is key in protecting our communities from illegal criminals and gives ICE and local law enforcement the tools they need to keep us safe. My colleagues and I are committed to securing our border and making sure people coming to our country are doing so legally. From boosting tribal law enforcement resources to helping navigate the administration transition, I will continue to work closely with the Yakama Nation as we move into the 119th Congress.
