There is a member of Congress who is known for making racist comments, being praised by white nationalists and neo-nazis, and who just made headlines again for defending his proposed abortion ban (without exemptions for rape and incest) by questioning how the world would be populated today if not for rape and incest.

His name is Steve King.

It's not easy to stand out in the Donald Trump's GOP for saying offensive and ignorant things about race, immigration, and more. But Steve King is a cut above, or more accurately, below. So much so that his own party stripped him of his committee assignments -- he's one of three members to receive this dubious distinction, and the other two are under indictment. It's time Steve King resigned from office.

But if he didn't resign after questioning how terms such as "white supremacist" and "white nationalist" became "offensive," he probably won't now.

That's why it's imperative that we beat him at the ballot box. And we can do it by electing his Democratic opponent, J.D. Scholten.

I voiced my support for J.D. in 2018 when he ran against King and narrowly lost in this ultra-conservative Iowa district. With King's continued espousal of white nationalist beliefs and violent, misogynistic comments, I know that if we can give J.D. the resources he needs, he will finish the job.

Not only will J.D. speak out against hatred, but he'll fight for the people of Iowa's 4th district by supporting affordable healthcare, improving public education, and giving breaks to working families, not corporations and the wealthiest few.
