There is no American history without Black History. February is a month to celebrate and recognize Black excellence and remarkable achievements in every aspect of American life.

My parents were civil rights activists. Their experiences and stories have greatly shaped who I am today. Celebrating and honoring the generations of Black activists and leaders that came before us will inspire those who come after us.

We must understand that Black History Month’s purpose is to both honor the past, and inspire a future that pushes boundaries and fosters equality. Black Americans have struggled against systems that infringe upon their rights, but we have thrived despite them.

We hope that this year Black History Month will serve as a call to action. Voting rights and access to the ballot box are the pinnacles of power in our country, and we have to continue the work of the incredible Black leaders of our past who began this fight for a stronger democracy.

Join me in commemorating Black History Month with pride, reflection, and a commitment to advancing voting rights. Together, let's build a future where justice, equality, and democracy prevail.
