** U.N. Issues New Guidance on Gender-Neutral Language ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
While much of the world has been locked down for a maddening period of time, and people are suffering, the United Nations naturally turns its attention to what "really matters"—promulgating new guidance for using gender-neutral language ([link removed]) . Much of the guidance is the usual—humankind for mankind, chair for chairman, spouse for husband or wife—but it also broke new ground to suggest replacing "landlord" with "owner"—a term that has its own problematic connotations. Surely, the U.N. has better things to do—like saving lives—than issue silly dicta on non-gendered language? Or maybe not.

** The Administration Reduced Regulations to Spur Economic Regrowth ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

As Americans begin to return to the public sphere, communities are slowly reviving as businesses come back to life. But of course, this is only the first step to recovery, and much more must be done to help our injured businesses return to full strength. Last week, the President provided more support for communities when he issued the “Executive Order on Regulatory Relief to Support Economic Recovery.” ([link removed]) Similar to the many regulations that were rolled back in order to help accelerate the response to the coronavirus pandemic, this executive order seeks to continue the deregulation of unnecessary requirements in order to aid our country’s economic recovery.

** The Little Sisters of the Poor ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious who have been caring for the elderly poor throughout the world for 175 years. This unlikely group has been fighting one government or another for nearly a decade seeking a religious exemption from the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate.

Can you identify which of the following statements about the Little Sisters and their legal battle is not true?

A: The bipartisan Religious Freedom and Restoration Act of 1993 (signed by President Bill Clinton) requires any federal law that imposes a substantial burden on religion to be the least restrictive means of accomplishing the government’s objective.
B: Notwithstanding the Obama administration’s reluctance to accommodate religious exercise, the Affordable Care Act exempted many employers, such as Exxon and Visa, because they had “grandfathered” plans.
C: The Little Sisters’ case pits religious liberty against women’s ability to access contraceptives.

The coronavirus pandemic has brought the threat that China poses to the forefront of many Americans’ minds. As a sign of recognizing the threat of China, Yahoo Finance reports: The Senate passed a bill by unanimous consent to take on Chinese companies listed on U.S. exchanges. Through this bill, the Senate is taking an important step in protecting our country from the Chinese Communist Party, a dictatorship that demands blind obedience from all citizens and their companies. But while the Senate is working to protect Americans, not all American businesses are on board, and some are exposing us to the growing threat of China.

** Arbitrary Birth Center Restrictions Endanger Families in Pandemic ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to overly burdensome regulations in Kentucky and other states, legitimate midwives are often being blocked from providing services to those who want them. Mary Carol Akers, a retired Army officer and certified nurse midwife who has delivered thousands of babies all over the world, tried to open a freestanding birth center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Akers was denied her request by state regulators, because area hospitals protested the addition of a new facility in the area. The COVID-19 pandemic illustrates with stark clarity the cost of that decision: With healthcare facilities expected to be stretched to the limit, the additional option of a freestanding birth center could have offered people with low-risk pregnancies a safe and accessible place to give birth outside of a hospital or their home.

** Teachers Union Turf War Rages on During Coronavirus School Closures ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout the coronavirus quarantine, teachers’ priorities have been keeping their students on track and creating innovative ways to learn. But the teachers union has focused on warning teachers against straying one inch from their contracts, including initial bans on e-learning. Citing equity concerns, school officials in several states are insisting that until all students have remote learning access, no student can get it. Unions have been wary of remote learning from the start, because they feared families might like it and switch to cyber charter schools. Educational choice benefits students and teachers alike, and they shouldn’t become casualties in this latest wave of teachers union turf wars.
