It’s been a chaotic and confusing week.
Trump made his first attempt to loot veterans, public education, and more by freezing all federal aid so as to end “DEI, woke gender ideology, and the Green New Deal.”
The order was temporarily blocked by a federal judge, but one thing is certain: Trump is set on gutting progressive initiatives across the country.
So today, we’re highlighting four organizations whose community-driven, DEI, environmental justice work is the antidote to this authoritarianism.
Here’s some more information on each of the groups you are supporting today:
• Malikah, Inc is a mutual aid hub in Queens, providing organizing training for women’s empowerment and food relief to migrants, low-income families, and single parent households. Your support will also power their anti-violence and community building programming.
• The Point Community Development Corporation is dedicated to the comprehensive revitalization of the Hunts Point section of The Bronx with youth development, free public arts and culture events, and community partnerships to develop environmental justice awareness in the area.
• Make the Road NY offers an array of education, health, and legal services for immigrant and working class communities in NYC, and supports asylum seekers with services like housing assistance referrals, case management, Metrocards for public transit, and cash assistance.
• Relief Access Program for The Bronx (known as RAP4Bronx) has become a major mutual aid provider in NYC since the onset of COVID-19, and now provides food, prepared meals, and groceries to dozens of food pantries and public housing developments throughout The Bronx.
Whether or not you can contribute today, thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
Team AOC
