We believe that we must resist not only through courts, with community, and on the ground, but also through coming together and celebrating each other.
One of the ways we do that is SPARK!, our annual celebration that goes to the heart of our work to change laws, policies, and attitudes - doing what it takes to keep trans communities alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation.
We are thrilled to announce this year's Claire Skiffington Vanguard Award Honoree! This award recognizes those community members who have been working for transgender equality for 10 years or more. For a variety of reasons and in diverse ways, these leaders have been - or are - the movement's vanguards:
Mattee Jim is of the Zuni People Clan and born for the Towering House People Clan; this is how she identifies as a Dineh (Navajo). A transgender advovate, trainer, consultant, and extraordinary person, Mattee has been a leader in HIV prevention and trans advocacy for 20 years on national, state, and local levels.
