‘An incredible first step’: Trump signs Senator Britt’s Laken Riley Act into
law
<[link removed]>
Calling it an “incredible first step,” U.S. Senator Katie Britt and colleagues
watched on Wednesday afternoon as President Donald Trump signed into law the
Laken Riley Act.
The legislation, introduced and sponsored in the Senate by Britt
(R-Montgomery), mandates that any illegal immigrants guilty of theft, burglary,
larceny, and/or shoplifting must be detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement.
It also ensures that states have standing to bring civil actions against
federal officials who refuse to enforce immigration law or who violate the law.
Amendments to the bill later added the assault of a law enforcement officer or
any crime that results in death or serious bodily injury to the list of
offenses that will result in being arrested by ICE.

Britt touts Redstone Arsenal, asks Kash Patel his plans for FBI in hearing
<[link removed]>
Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., highlighted the FBI’s campus at Redstone Arsenal in
Huntsville and applauded director nominee Kash Patel’s vision for the bureau
during a hearing Thursday.
Britt started off her time during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing
explaining a plethora of positive statements she heard from Patel on how he
would tackle the FBI director role throughout the other senators’ questioning.
“You said our law enforcement officers deserve the very best,” Britt said.
“You said you know and you will not allow there to be victims of government
overreach because it has happened to you.”

U.S. Sens. Katie Britt, Thom Tillis introduce Justice for Victims of Sanctuary
Cities Act
<[link removed]>
U.S. Senators Katie Britt, R-Ala., and Thom Tillis, R-N.C., with several of
their Republican colleagues introduced the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary
Cities Act. Their legislation would “fight sanctuary policies and provide
justice for victims and their families who are harmed when sanctuary
jurisdictions endanger public safety,” the release stated.
“Radical sanctuary cities give criminal illegal aliens a safe haven at the
expense of the safety and security of American citizens and our communities,”
said Senator Britt. “Senate Republicans are committed to working with the Trump
Administration to restore commonsense immigration enforcement and border
policies to protect our nation. The Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act
is the next step in this process—forcing sanctuary cities and states to face
consequences for the devastating effects of their open border policies.”
