Hi, there. I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out personally with an update on my first month in the new Congress with January coming to a close.

Needless to say, we’ve seen a lot of anxious headlines and likely unconstitutional moves from Donald Trump and House Republicans. Eggs aren’t any cheaper like they promised, tariffs are threatening entire sections of our economy, but they have been crystal clear about the actual things they’re hoping to do.

They've tried to erase transgender individuals, repeal 65-year-old Civil Rights efforts, and shut down or defund entire portions of the federal government to clear room for tax cuts for billionaires. And along the way, Republican stooges in Congress have offered constitutional amendments (which will never pass) to allow Donald Trump free reign to abuse his office and the federal government even more than last time.

Despite the dysfunction, I’m still creating a path toward a positive future for the 17th District. We are opening new community centers within the district, securing funding for our troops at Rock Island Arsenal, and bringing thousands of union jobs to the district. At the end of the day, I'll work with anyone if it means passing good legislation for our country and community.

I've been so focused on delivering on these important legislative works that my staff and I have had less time to fundraise for the reelection effort. We know it's early, but this is still a swing seat, and the Republicans are still dead set on unseating me.
