John,
You've seen the commercials. In these uncertain times, McDonald's says they care. They say the safety of our communities and people are their "top priority."
They've got a funny way of showing it. Would you use just a coffee filter as a mask? A dog diaper?
It's not just masks. I don't have sick leave, and I don't know what I'd do if I caught the virus. I don't get hazard pay, even though I'm putting my life on the line for McDonald's profits.
Last week, the House passed the HEROES Act, which would expand paid sick leave, hazard pay, and other protections workers like me need to survive. So why hasn't the Senate passed it yet?
Sign this letter to demand your Senators prioritize US over corporations. Tell them to VOTE YES on the HEROES Act.
80% of Black workers can't work from home. For my Latinx sisters and brothers, that number is 84%. We wouldn't be able to make rent or keep food in the fridge if we stay home. And because of it, we're getting sick at higher rates – and we're dying at higher rates.
McDonald's has failed to keep us safe, and it's past time for employers like them to be held accountable for workplace safety.
Demand PPE, sick leave, hazard pay, and a better future for ALL our families!
Send a message to your Senators and demand that they #ProtectAllWorkers.
We rise to meet the demands of this moment every single day, just by showing up to work. It shouldn't be too much to ask for our elected leaders to join us.
Solidarity,
Katera Wilkins
