Chaos, cruelty and confusion. That’s what President Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) unleashed earlier this week in announcing they were stopping all federal funding. 

This was aimed at programs to address the climate crisis that is threatening our air, water, jobs and much more. And it is reported that the idea came from Trump’s pick to lead the OMB, Russell Vought.

We cannot allow Vought this power. Right now, the Senate is considering his confirmation, meaning we have a chance to stop this. Demand that your Senators oppose Russell Vought’s confirmation to direct OMB.

This is the reckless Project 2025 agenda in action. In nominating Vought, the architect of this plan, to control government purse strings as head of OMB, the Trump administration shows that it is still planning to grab power from Congress and destroy the checks and balances that protect people across the U.S.

Vought and his Project 2025 agenda have been clear since the beginning. He: 

• Refused to say he would follow the law requiring the president to spend funds appropriated by Congress in his confirmation hearings.
• Plans to villainize the staff at the EPA and put them “in trauma” while he slashes the agency’s funding.
• Supports Trump’s abolishment of the Office of Domestic Climate Policy, putting the U.S. behind the ball on implementing and benefiting from clean energy initiatives.
• Will advise Trump to refuse to accept the findings from the U.S. National Climate Assessment, making us less prepared to deal with detrimental climate impacts.
• Wants to dismantle key government agencies, especially the EPA, weakening our government’s ability to hold polluters accountable.

This nomination is a threat to our climate progress and gets rid of any consideration of climate in government whatsoever.

Unlike Vought, we know ignoring climate change isn’t going to get rid of the disastrous effects people across the country are already facing — such as polluted water, heat waves, excessive flooding, high electricity bills and more.

Will you send a message to your Senators asking them to oppose Vought before it’s too late?

And it’s not just the environmental community opposing this nomination. Vought promises to restrict disaster aid funding, cut public health programs and even freeze investments in infrastructure.

That’s why, yesterday, EDF Action formally asked every Senator to vote no on Vought and joined 135 other organizations to oppose his nomination.

Russell Vought hasn’t been confirmed yet — and we need it on record that people across the country oppose this reckless effort by Trump and his allies.
