Our hearts are with everyone who has been impacted by the deadly aircraft collision over Reagan National Airport on Wednesday evening. We pray for the souls onboard, their loved ones and first responders who work with courage and commitment to save lives, when possible, and to honor the lives of those tragically lost with dignity and respect in the recovery process.

As we learn more about this heartbreaking tragedy for our country, it is essential that we operate on facts alone, come together to support the families and communities impacted directly and ensure the safety of the American people. This unprecedented action was straight from the pages of Project 2025.

Not only did a judge block Trump’s reckless and unlawful federal aid freeze, but the White House backed down from their illegal scheme to target key programs millions of Americans depend on — because YOU spoke out.

From Trump’s reckless hiring freeze that exacerbates understaffing at Veterans’ Affairs to his illegal federal aid freeze to firing the Veterans’ Affairs Inspector General, questioning disability benefits and attempting to block PACT Act cancer care benefits — Trump and Republicans are putting the health of veterans in jeopardy to give massive tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations.

Trump’s actions and cruel Veterans’ Affairs cuts proposed by Republicans in Congress betray our nation’s sacred obligation to care for our veterans — and our debt to military families who served alongside them.

Veterans and veterans’ groups are continuing to raise the alarm they sounded before the election that Trump and MAGA Republicans plan to advance privatization of Veterans’ Affairs, slash veterans' health care and gut vital programs and benefits for veterans and military families. Democrats and all patriotic Americans who value their service must hold sacred and uphold our nation’s promise to leave no veteran behind when they come home.

In the nearly 15 years since Democrats delivered the Affordable Care Act without one Republican vote and tens of millions of Americans in red and blue states have gotten covered, Republicans have never stopped trying to destroy it.
