Dear neighbor,
I want to start by expressing my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the plane and helicopter crash outside of Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night. This is a truly tragic incident, and my expectation is that the NTSB, FAA, and other agencies will thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the crash to ensure it never happens again. I’m grateful for the first responders who worked tirelessly through the night to help with search and recovery efforts. My office will continue to monitor this heartbreaking situation.
Earlier this week, I heard from many constituents concerned about the Trump Administration’s efforts to freeze federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance. I share those concerns about firefighters, elementary schools, and countless others who make our communities safer and healthier potentially losing vital funding.
The American public made it clear that jeopardizing federal support for so many crucial programs was unacceptable. In the face of public outrage, the Trump Administration ultimately rescinded the order, but extreme Republicans remain committed to eliminating funding for important initiatives. Make no mistake: I will fight against any effort to take away money from critical services that Americans depend on.
This mixed messaging from the Trump Administration has created a significant amount of uncertainty for federal funding and grant recipients. As more information and resources become available, we will make every effort to share them with you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at lieu.house.gov/contact or (323) 651-1040.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Last weekend, I went on MSNBC with Alex Witt to talk about our community’s need for disaster assistance, without conditions. I’m working around the clock to make sure Californians have the resources they need. Watch our full conversation:

However, I encourage you to still seek the assistance you need. We're in this together, and I’m fighting to make sure these resources remain available to you.
