CCL June Conference, Book Club & HR763 Policy Deep Dive!

CCL National is holding the annual June conference ([link removed]) on Jun 13th, when we would normally have our June chapter meeting. So, instead of holding our regular June meeting, we are having a No Agenda DC Chapter Social Hour ([link removed]) on the 1st Saturday, and encourage everyone to sign up for the National conference ([link removed]) on the 2nd Saturday!

The June conference is a really wonderful way to hear directly from CCL leadership the questions that you have been asking, to connect with chapters across the country, and share ideas of how others are implementing CCL's 5 levers of political will. There will be opportunities for breakouts on specific topics or skill building, and keynote speakers from U.S. Senators to high school students (We mean it when we want to empower everyone)! The CCL-DC book club meets monthly ([link removed]) to discuss readings around climate action. This month will be on Vandana Shiva's Who Really Feeds the World?: The Failures of Agribusiness and the Promise of Agroecology ([link removed]) .

Book Description: "In Who Really Feeds the World?, author and activist Vandana Shiva debunks the notion that our current food crisis is inevitable and must be addressed through industrial agriculture and genetic modification. In fact, Shiva argues, those forces are the ones responsible for the hunger problem in the first place. As an alternative, Shiva emphasizes agroecology, the knowledge and science of the complex interactions that produce our food. She succinctly and eloquently lays out the networks of people and processes that feed the world, exploring issues of diversity, the needs of small famers, the importance of seed saving, the movement toward localization, and the role of women in producing the world's food. Refuting widely held beliefs about the global food crisis, Shiva delivers a powerful manifesto calling for agricultural justice and sustainability, drawing upon her thirty years of research and accomplishments in the field."

In light of the upcoming CCL June virtual conference and lobby day, the CCL-DC chapter will be offering a H.R. 763 Bill Deep Dive training session. ([link removed])

This will be a deep and broad overview of the essentials behind CCL's preferred climate change solution- a carbon fee and dividend policy. It's a great opportunity to explore the specifics of H.R. 763 and have your questions about the bill answered.
