 ✅ 5 Bills to Create Jobs
On January 13, I signed bipartisan bills to establish the Michigan Innovation Fund and Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit. These brand-new, bipartisan economic development tools will empower Michigan entrepreneurs, lower costs for Michigan businesses, and create good-paying Michigan jobs.

I’m proud that we worked across the aisle on these commonsense bills to grow our economy and ensure more people can make it in Michigan. It’s simple: if you want to be a leader in technology and innovation, Michigan is the place to be.
These new tools will launch hundreds of Michigan-based start-ups, create thousands of good-paying Michigan jobs, and increase collaboration with Michigan’s world-class universities.
✅ 16 Bills to Lower Costs and Support Affordable Housing
On January 16, I signed 16 commonsense, bipartisan bills that will help put money back in Michiganders’ pockets, ensuring they can pay the bills and put food on the table.
From supporting affordable housing to helping Michiganders take advantage of apprenticeship programs and the MiABLE savings program, these bills will build on our work to lower costs and ensure everyone has the support they need to ‘make it’ in Michigan.
Specifically, these bills will:
- Streamline MSHDA’s operations, allowing the authority to better use its resources to address Michigan’s accessible housing shortage, and help save potentially millions of dollars that will go towards supporting affordable housing. The bills also expand access to affordable housing by preventing landlords, with five or more rental units, from denying a tenant housing based on their source of income.
- Help make apprenticeship programs accessible to more Michiganders, ensuring they receive the financial support they need.
- Support Michiganders with disabilities by updating the Michigan Achieving a Better Life Experience (MiABLE) savings program, increasing eligibility and flexibility.
✅ 19 Bills to Keep Schools and Communities Safe
On January 22, I signed 19 commonsense, bipartisan bills to make Michigan schools, homes, and communities safer. Additionally, I signed an executive order to ensure the diverse needs of Michigan’s students and educators are represented on the new School Safety and Mental Health Commission.

Michigan students should feel safe whether they’re at home or in the classroom. These bills will help keep Michigan families and neighborhoods safe from gun violence and other violent crimes. Each of these bills builds on my administration’s commitment to keeping Michiganders and their families safe. Since I took office, we’ve invested over $1.6 billion into public safety programs across six balanced, bipartisan budgets, ensuring Michiganders can feel safe no matter where they are.
These bills will help keep Michigan communities safer from gun violence by requiring information developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, on the safe storage of firearms, to be distributed to parents of students. They will also ensure that the Michigan State Police destroy all parts of firearms turned in during buyback programs.
✅ 16 Bills to Protect Reproductive Rights
On January 21, I signed 16 bills that expand reproductive freedom in Michigan, including a bill that allows pharmacists to directly prescribe and dispense contraceptives, including birth control pills, to patients.

This package of bills ensures women can more easily access critical health care by lowering costs and cutting unnecessary red tape. These bills will save women time and money so they can access the birth control they need. Whether you’re getting ready to start a family or figuring out which contraceptive option is best for you, I’ll fight to protect your reproductive freedoms.
Last year, I announced a new program, Take Control of Your Birth Control, to boost Michiganders’ access to free contraception. These bills build on our work to give more Michiganders the opportunity to control if, when, and how they choose to start a family.
