It’s so confusing sometimes to be a federal worker
Trump’s been in office for nearly two weeks and egg prices are skyrocketing, the Chiefs are going back for their third consecutive Super Bowl win, and Emilia Pérez received a historic number of Oscar nominations, for some reason. Folks, it’s brutal out here!
In a new poll, Data for Progress finds that many of Trump’s first-week actions are unpopular, with an outright majority opposing Trump’s directives for federal agencies to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America" in official documents, to eliminate the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and to end a policy that provided funding to help states enroll more residents in Medicaid.

A majority of voters (52%), including 61% of Independents and more than 1 in 5 Republicans (22%), also oppose Trump’s decision to pardon nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, while 42% of voters support this decision.
Sending love to all of the federal workers who follow the DFP newsletter — y’all deserve so much better than having your future determined by literal manchildren who get off on sending vague and condescending emails.

very cuts to essential services, much billionaire tax breaks, wow
Remember when DOGE was just a meme of a cute shiba inu? Or when TikTok was just a song by Ke$ha? When Snooki was the main orange celebrity on our TV? Honestly, someone please just take us back to the early 10s.
We partnered with the Progressive Change Institute to look at voters' views of the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), which is really just a front for Elon, Trump, and their evil gang of billionaires to cut the essential programs Americans rely on each day. Hilariously, Vivek Ramaswamy is so annoying that even this cabal doesn’t want to hang with him.
When asked about DOGE’s potential actions, voters are most concerned about cuts to Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and veterans health care — followed closely by food assistance for low-income families and medical research.

We also find that telling voters that DOGE will “steal from you” to give tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk makes voters more unfavorable to DOGE than just telling them about benefit cuts alone. Something to keep in mind when you go home to visit your Fox News family!

Phuxatawney Phil, save us from climate change 🙏
That poor groundhog is going to pop out of his burrow on Sunday, take a look at what Trump’s done these last two weeks to reverse our progress on climate change, and tell us we’re on our own from here on out.
In his inaugural address, President Trump outlined his energy policy with the simple phrase, “We will drill, baby, drill,” which he probably thinks makes him sound wayyyy cooler than it actually does.
From opening Alaska’s protected Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling to blocking all new offshore wind projects, the energy policy of the Trump administration seeks to increase fossil fuel production while halting renewable energy development. However, we find that his individual policies enjoy lukewarm support at best.
In particular, voters show the least support for the banning of offshore wind (38%) and ending the American Climate Corps (38%). Voters are most supportive of ending federal funding for electric vehicles (49%) and declaring a national energy emergency (43%), though none of the policies garner majority support.

We also find that a majority of voters (52%) believe the government should prioritize clean energy projects, like wind turbines and solar farms, over new oil and gas drilling, with only 38% of voters wanting to prioritize fossil fuel development on public lands.
But honestly, between the amount of hair dye and fake spray tan going through the White House these days, we could probably fuel our nation just on their beauty products alone.
