John,
In these especially challenging times, we have something to celebrate -- the passage of the Metro area's HereTogether measure. It will fund much-needed services, including case management, mental healthcare, addiction and recovery treatment, employment services, and rent assistance, to thousands of residents who lack stable housing in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties.
Leaders from Metro and Multnomah County joined with other public officials and a dazzling array of private citizens to achieve a remarkable victory. Congratulations!
This victory drives home the need to confront housing insecurity statewide, especially now, as more and more Oregonians face economic uncertainty. Like you, in my travels across Oregon I've seen homeless camps practically everywhere. These scenes are heartbreaking.
I know this much: When we look out for the most vulnerable among us, our entire community benefits. That's why I'm so inspired by the HereTogether coalition, why I will advocate for services like these statewide, and why I will continue to fight housing discrimination and illegal evictions.
These concerns align directly with my passion for this job. And, frankly, they are a big part of why I am now running for a third term as your Attorney General. Together, we can safeguard and improve the lives of all Oregonians.
Ellen
