Email from Rep. Malliotakis Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn   My friend, Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT TRUMP I was honored to watch as President Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. With President Trump back in the White House, Americans once again have the freedom to choose what's best for themselves and their families. Our government will be one that is efficient, respects and protects taxpayers, and works to lower costs for middle-class families who have been crushed by record-high inflation. On Day one, President Trump took historic actions to make our nation safe, our borders secure, within the first week, has been working to rid our streets of violent foreign criminals and gang members. I congratulate President Trump and Vice President Vance on their Inauguration and look forward to working with them and my colleagues in Congress to deliver tangible results for the American people. CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE I was proud to be elected to the serve on the Board of Directors for the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI). As the proud daughter of a Cuban refugee, it’s an honor to be elected to serve on CHLI's Board where I can advance my work to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community and advocate for common sense policies that protect our freedoms and promote greater economic opportunity for all. READ MORE UNLEASHING AMERICA'S ENERGY POTENTIAL I joined Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions in Washington to discuss unleashing America's energy potential and clean energy innovation under the new Trump Administration. We support an all of the above energy strategy to protect our national security & grow our economy! SUPPORTING OUR NATION'S VETERANS I joined the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to celebrate the signing of the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act into law. This legislation, which I worked to help pass, will improve veterans' healthcare and provide much needed support to their spouses and caregivers! TAX CUTS FOR MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES WATCH This Congress we have an opportunity to lower taxes for middle-class families and senior citizens. President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act gave an across the board tax cut, created millions of jobs, lifted millions of Americans out of poverty and brought unemployment to a record low. I spoke about the importance of extending these tax provisions at our first Ways and Means Committee hearing this month, and I will continue working to ensure we provide our middle class families and seniors with relief!   IN THE DISTRICT PRESIDENT'S DAY ESSAY CONTEST I am pleased to announce our office's annual President's Day Essay Contest where students across our Congressional District share their ideas on what they would do to improve their community and country as President of the United States. Winners will receive a certificate of recognition, a gift card to a local bookstore and will be invited to a pizza party to share their ideas with our team! LEARN MORE PUSHING FOR MAILBOXES IN PORT RICHMOND My office joined the Port Richmond Community as it faces challenges accessing postal services following the removal of mailboxes due to high rate of phishing and check theft. Federal, state, and local law enforcement must take these crimes seriously and prosecute offenders appropriately. Together, we can reduce check theft and work to restore mailboxes in our community. DETAINING & DEPORTING FOREIGN CRIMINALS WATCH In just one week, the Trump Administration has removed thousands of dangerous criminals from our streets including gang members, suspected terrorists, sex offenders and murderers. The mass illegal migration crisis created by the Biden Administration cost American lives and New York’s taxpayers billions of dollars. New York City must fully cooperate with ICE to rid our city of this criminal activity. No local or state elected official or government agency should stand in the way as federal authorities enforce our nation’s immigration laws to ensure the safety of all Americans. BIPARTISAN EFFORT TO KILL CONGESTION PRICING READ OUR LETTER HERE I joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers representing the outer boroughs at the city and state levels in writing to President Trump and urging him to explore legal options to reverse New York City's Congestion Pricing scheme that was implemented with approval from the Biden Administration’s Federal Highway Administration without an Environmental Impact Statement which is required by federal law. SWEARING IN STATE SENATOR STEVE CHAN I was honored to administer the oath of office as Brooklyn’s newest State Senator Steve Chan was sworn in at New Utrecht High School! After serving in the Marines and NYPD, Steve is ready to serve our community in Albany.   IN CASE YOU MISSED IT   My Op-Ed: President Trump and I are committed to delivering middle class tax relief One of the biggest tasks before Congress this year will be to ensure President Trump’s historic 2017 tax cuts don’t expire, something that would hurt our families, our economy and result in a $4 trillion tax increase on American families and businesses. READ MORE My Op-Ed: Here’s how Trump 2.0 can cut $20 billion in spending, wipe out Fauci’s leftover bloat — and save animals President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency has elevated the problem of wasteful spending from think-tank white papers to a national cover story. With $36 trillion in national debt — more than $300,000 per taxpayer — there’s a lot of spending to slash. What better way to start than by cutting the $20 billion the government wastes every year on dead-end experiments that torture dogs, cats and other animals? READ MORE NYC congestion pricing: Rep. Malliotakis, colleagues introduce bills to ‘reverse’ the tolling program Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) has joined two of her congressional colleagues from New Jersey in reintroducing bills to curb NYC congestion pricing. “Governor Hochul and Janno Lieber will go to any length to continue treating hardworking New Yorkers like bottomless ATMs,” said Malliotakis in a statement. “We are already starting to see the negative impact this burdensome tax will have on working-class New Yorkers and small businesses who are already being taxed to death, and with the help of President Trump we will continue to use every legislative and legal avenue at the federal level to reverse this disastrous cash grab brought to us by Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature,” she continued.
