John,
President Trump has just handed more control to billionaire CEOs by limiting the ability of the independent government agency that protects workers’ rights to enforce our CWA union contracts.1
Donald Trump just fired Jennifer Abruzzo, a former CWA attorney, as the National Labor Relations Board General Counsel. The president also illegally fired NLRB member Gwynne Wilcox. The National Labor Relations Act states that a president can only remove an NLRB Board member if they are neglecting their duty or committing malfeasance, and Wilcox was doing neither.
When companies bargain in bad faith, change the terms of our employment without bargaining, or do other things that interfere with our ability to join or participate in our union, we file charges with the NLRB.
2 Firing Wilcox leaves only two NLRB board members in their posts, which prevents the Board from ruling on most cases.
Send a message to the White House and Donald Trump to tell them that firing Jennifer Abruzzo and Gwynne Wilcox was wrong. He must reinstate Wilcox and appoint a pro-worker General Counsel immediately. We need a functioning NLRB to protect workers and enforce our union contracts.
Corporate executives want to be able to squeeze as much profit from their workers as they can, and our union contracts stand in their way.3 Instead of holding CEOs accountable, President Trump is giving them a green light to take advantage of their employees.
Please take action to tell Donald Trump that we need a functioning NLRB that will protect workers and enforce our contracts.
In unity,
Dan Mauer
CWA Director of Government Affairs
