John, it's Hank Johnson. 

Let me get straight to the point: Democratic Oversight in Congress is the American people's last line of defense against Trump's unconstitutional attacks on the rule of law.

Now that may seem like a big jumble of words—but before I ask you to chip in to help us hold the line—allow me to explain what's been going on over the last two weeks.

1️⃣ Trump is acting like a dictator, repeatedly ignoring the laws that govern our country. He's pushing the limits of the Constitution by attempting to stick his fingers in Congress’s power of the purse, violating federal hiring and firing laws, and redefining constitutional amendments to fit his extremist agenda.

2️⃣ He will continue to impose authoritarian rule unless stopped in the courts. State attorneys general, non-profits, and even religious groups have filed lawsuits to fight these unjust executive actions, but litigation is time consuming and costly.

3️⃣ Which leads to the biggest question: Will he even abide by Supreme Court rulings he disagrees with? If and when these suits reach the Supreme Court, they will go in front of a MAGA majority that has repeatedly ruled to absolve Trump of wrongdoing. In the unlikely event that SCOTUS rules against him, who's to say he won't just ignore that, too?

By slashing federal funding—one of the few successful bipartisan bills passed by Congress—this illegal plan threatens democracy, hurts farmers, raises rent and grocery prices, makes college less affordable, and undermines disease-fighting efforts.

But with MAGA House and Senate majorities, Democratic Oversight in Congress is the only thing stopping Trump from completely ignoring the law of the land and forgetting about what Americans really need.

John, the road to defeating Trump is going to be long and difficult, and with our current standing, it's critical we unite to push back against Trump and his anti-American agenda.
