Ohio State. A lecture by

two IDF veterans at The Ohio State University attracted anti-Israel protesters led by SJP, but it also attracted a packed and supportive audience that spilled out into the hallways. Many protesters wore masks and chanted “We will honor all our martyrs.” The veterans, Saar Arie and Maya Desiatnik, were apprehensive ahead of this off-campus event, but as Arie said, “after I saw the security at the place and I saw all of the great people that came to support us I wasn’t scared anymore.” At the discussion organized by Belev Echad, a group that helps wounded IDF soldiers, Arie and Desiatnik talked about their harrowing experiences during the terrorist attacks on
10/7, and will bring their insights to several more cities.

Executive Order. President Donald Trump signed several executive orders that touch on

U.S. education policy, including one addressing antisemitism, specifically including antisemitic and anti-Israel bias on campus. In a statement about the antisemitism order,

ADL supports “holding those accountable who harass, intimidate, or attack Jewish students, faculty and staff on college campuses. The increased enforcement of university policies already has started to make a significant difference in the campus environment — and more should be done. While we applaud strong action and severe consequences for those who commit violent crimes or otherwise break the law, any immigration-related ramifications obviously must be consistent with due process and existing federal statutes and regulations.”

Columbia. On Wednesday, anti-Israel protestors

vandalized two Columbia University buildings, flushing cement down toilets and spraying red paint on the facade. Graffiti personally attacking the school’s Dean, IDF soldier Keren Yarhi-Milo and others were stenciled on the buildings. A manifesto published by the group claiming responsibility described the vandalism as an act of resistance. Columbia condemned the incidents, saying “acts of vandalism of University buildings and property and attempts to harass and intimidate members of our community are unacceptable and abhorrent and will not be tolerated at Columbia.” This follows growing tensions on campus, including anti-Israel statements being shouted in classes and
disruptions of Israel-related courses.

Campus Investigation. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
[link removed]
voted unanimously to launch a yearlong investigation into rising antisemitism on college campuses, including the federal government’s response to the crisis. The bipartisan commission, acting on a request from lawmakers in coordination with ADL, will examine university actions, compare data from before and after 10/7, and assess the enforcement of Title VI protections. Led by former Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) and attorney Peter Kirsanow, the investigation aims to provide recommendations by 2026. Lawmakers emphasized the need for stronger university responses and federal oversight to ensure a safe learning environment for Jewish students. ADL

applauded USCCR for moving forward with its first report on antisemitism in nearly 20 years and the lawmakers for their leadership.

Barnard. At Barnard College, the appointment of

Rebecca Jordan-Young as interim director of the school’s Barnard Center for Research on Women has

raised eyebrows among Jewish students given her reported membership in the school’s Faculty for Justice in Palestine chapter. A media report says Jordan-Young was a ‘protest marshal’ supporting anti-Israel student protesters at Columbia last year.

Netherlands. Members of the Dutch House of Representatives

expressed serious concerns over the rising antisemitism in universities since 10/7. Parliament members urged Education Minister Eppo Bruins to ensure improved safety for Jewish students, many of whom are reportedly afraid to attend classes. During the debate, a Radboud University professor who called for the dismantling of Israel and posted inflammatory messages on social media was singled out; Minister Bruins responded, condemning the remarks as "disgusting," but he stated that he cannot directly intervene, as universities are neutral employers. Radboud University has so far declined to take disciplinary action, asserting that the professor is entitled to express personal opinions.
2. 🏆 Campus Champions
Antisemitism on campus is a crisis we must address together. ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt and Hillel International’s Adam Lehman detail how Jewish students across U.S. college campuses are facing a

growing crisis of antisemitism, with more than 83% reporting seeing or experiencing antisemitism since 10/7 in a

new survey. Many students and faculty feel unsafe or hide their Jewish identity. Universities are failing to adequately address the issue, with most Jewish students lacking confidence in their schools' ability to prevent or respond to incidents. ADL and Hillel are redoubling efforts to urge university leaders to take decisive action by denouncing antisemitism, enforcing policies fairly, ensuring campus safety, and fostering a culture of safety. The issue extends beyond Jewish students — it threatens the core values of higher education and society at large.
👉 TAKE ACTION: Join Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director, and Adam Lehman, Hillel International CEO and President, on Monday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT for an ADL Fighting Hate from Home online event to dig into the alarming findings from the new report.

Curing Poisoned Ivy. Two Jewish Harvard professors and one alumna are

voicing their support for the university’s adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism as a critical step in combating antisemitism on campus. The authors share that this will enable Harvard to uphold free speech while setting necessary boundaries against discrimination. They acknowledge that Harvard won’t be able to stop professors from publishing statements which can be considered antisemitic, but the university will now have tools at their disposal to enforce many of the principles outlined in the definition — they urge Harvard to enforce this policy shift with meaningful action.

Kibbutz to Capital Markets. Despite everything that has transpired post 10/7, like the people of Israel, its economy has also shown

incredible resilience. The Economist magazine ranked Israel as the 6th best performing country in the world, due in part to the Tel Aviv 125 Index outperforming the S&P 500, investment reaching $11.5 billion in Q3 of last year and a growing surplus. The shekel has also strengthened against the U.S. dollar, helping curb inflation. The Economist’s survey highlighted an increase in private consumption, and attributed it to an underlying optimism in Israel.

Running Into the History Books. Israeli marathoner Haimro Alame
[link removed]
made history by becoming the first Israeli to win the Houston Marathon, crossing the finish line in 2:08:17. Alame, born into an Ethiopian Jewish family and a dominant figure in Israel’s marathon running, celebrated by waving the Israeli flag as he secured his victory. "This win is for my country," Alame told the Houston Chronicle, referencing the challenges Israel faces. Despite being just off his personal best, Alame's performance outpaced his closest competitor, Eritrean runner Yemane Haileselassie, by eight seconds.
