It’s difficult to find the words to address the tragedy that unfolded here in Washington this week.
For the first time in nearly 16 years, we’ve witnessed a major air crash involving a commercial flight. With some of the safest airspace in the world, it’s difficult to fathom something like this happening, but 60 passengers and four crew members were on board the American Airlines flight when an Army helicopter carrying four service members crashed into it—and officials tell us there are no survivors.
Kelly and I are heartbroken for the families who have received the worst news imaginable, and I promise to do anything I can to support them in the days ahead.
To the first responders who jumped into action, frantically searching for survivors in the icy cold waters of the Potomac—you are heroes, and we are so grateful for your bravery.
I have no doubt that this investigation will be thorough to ensure we get answers for the families and prevent something like this from happening again.
Please keep these families and all those affected in your prayers.
