FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS
Unapologetic (2021)

Black stories matter, today and everyday.

POV presents We Keep Coming: Black Lives, Black Futures ([link removed] ) featuring nine documentaries that capture the transformative spirit of Black America. In racing pits and art galleries, on ancestral lands and urban streets, in flood waters and prison yards – Black Americans are claiming space and transforming institutions. A groundbreaking NASCAR pit crew member races against time, a painter refuses to separate art from activism, children reconnect with formerly incarcerated parents, and communities fight for their land and water rights. These stories capture moments of both resistance and joy as people challenge the institutions that would contain them, safeguard the histories that would be erased, and forge connections across generations. From nine-second pit stops to decades-long struggles, these stories reveal the unstoppable force of communities rising up, refusing to be contained, and reclaiming their rightful place in American life. Through
daily acts of courage and persistence, they're reimagining what's possible and forging a future that cannot be denied.

On February 15th, PBS proudly rebroadcasts Fannie Lou Hamer's America ([link removed]) , honoring this extraordinary civil rights leader and 2025 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient ([link removed]) . Through rare audio recordings and powerful archival footage, Hamer tells her remarkable journey from Mississippi sharecropper to pioneering activist in her own words. Her unforgettable challenge at the 1964 Democratic Convention – "Is this America, the land of the free and the home of the brave?" – changed the course of civil rights history. Working in Mississippi's cotton fields from age six, Hamer intimately understood the injustices that compelled Black families to work endlessly for minimal compensation. Inspired by her work with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), she dedicated her life to voter enfranchisement and
Black political representation, mobilizing thousands to register to vote and mounting a historic Senate campaign.
